2008

WE WORK FOR YOU!

The community of Bound Brook is a thriving, changing borough with a proud and great history.  The Bound Brook Area Chamber of Commerce wants to encourage the growth of our business community.  We want people to come here to shop, eat, and enjoy our diverse community, which includes Bound Brook, Middlesex and South Bound Brook, and surrounding towns. We sponsor several activities each year.

We list our news, events and new members on www.boundbrook.com

We are one of the sponsors of the annual “Bound Brook Community Day” in September. This event features food, crafts, vendors and entertainment, and brings the entire community together.

The annual Arrival of Santa takes place in early December. We provide refreshments, and in 2007, we took pictures of the children with Santa at the LaMonte Lafayette PTO’s Festival of Giving.

We also sponsored the second annual holiday tree lighting at BillianLegionPark. This year, the Chamber purchased new LED lighting for the gazebo and the tree. We also provided a plaque in memory of the 325th anniversary of Bound Brook, and also purchased the tree.  We provided flowers to beautify the “new” Roundabout. We thank the Borough for their help in these endeavors.

We provided the Angel and Star Holiday lights on Main Street a few years ago and did even more in 2007. Lighted Wreaths for downtown and seasonal banners for Union Avenue were purchased. With the help of Borough Hall, we were also able to decorate Talmage Avenue. This year, we hope to add to those decorations and banners.

Each year, in September, we honor our Business Person of the Year at our annual Dinner Dance and install our officers and board members.  This past year, our honoree was Nelda Richardson (Union Avenue Legend Pharmacy), long-time treasurer for the Chamber.

In March 2006, we began publishing a monthly "Chamber Page" in The Courier-News. We introduce our new members on this page, which is bordered by ads. To buy an ad, call Nafeisa Chandler at the C-N, 908-707-3152. The ad appears the third Wednesday of the month in the community section.

Speaking of ads, there is still time to get your ad into the 2008 borough- and Chamber-sponsored community newsletter that goes to all residences in Bound Brook on a quarterly basis. For information, call Mafalda at Versatile Printing Applications at 732-356-8355.

The Chamber provides a $100 Scholarship to a graduating HS Senior.

We hold a Monthly Board Meeting at a local restaurant. All members are welcome to attend these meetings and provide input, though they cannot vote on board issues. In addition, we hold 3 "general meetings" during the year with speakers, a good way for our members to network and get to know each other.

In 2006, we also published a cookbook commemorating Bound Brook’s 325th anniversary. These have been sold out, but can be viewed at the library. Our Chamber float won first prize in the annual parade.

We co-sponsored Jazz for Peace to raise funds for those businesses affected by the April 2006 nor’easter. We also sponsored a night at Patriots Stadium and a car show at Fuddrucker’s. We raised about $5,000 in funds, which were distributed to our members who were wiped out by the flood.

Upcoming plans for 2008 include, but are not limited to, a general meeting in March, Memorial Day parade participation, more beautification of the park and main roads, and a fundraiser at a Friday night Patriots game on Aug. 29.

Please feel free to call us at (732) 356-7273 with any questions you may have regarding our growing and exciting Chamber.
