VOLUME XVI, NUMBER 1 FEBRUARY 2002 ANOTHER BIG STEP FORWARD

Bids were opened recently for the second construction contract. This work will complete the protection for the eastern

portion of Bound Brook Borough.
A large pumping station will be built near the new bridge. Its job is to gather up internal rainwater when major storms

occur, and pump the water over the levee and into the Green Brook, very near its mouth with the Raritan River.
The construction work also includes a line of earthen levees to protect against flooding from high water levels in the Green Brook.

A PIECE FOR PARSA IS INCLUDED

PARSA, the Plainfield Area Regional Sewerage Authority, has a very old and deteriorated major sewer line which runs through the area of construction. The Project includes replacing the portions of this old sewer line which pass beneath the levees.
PARSA has decided, wisely, to replace the balance of their sewer line in that vicinity at the same time. PARSA's new, large, modern line will be part of the same construction contract. PARSA will pay for the portion of the contract
which includes this improvement. Everyone agrees that this it's the right time to do that work.

WORK CONTINUES ON THE FIRST CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT

Readers who pass by this eastern part of Bound Brook will have noticed that work on the new bridge, connecting East Main Street, Bound Brook with Lincoln Boulevard in Middlesex Borough, is progressing nicely.
The new construction contract will tie in with the replacement bridge, to complete a loop for the protection of the eastern portion of Bound Brook Borough.

WITHIN THE BUDGET

This new construction contract will be done by the lower bidder, Carbro Constructors Corp. of Hillsborough, NJ.
Their bid was $8.3 million. This bid is comfortably within the cost estimated by the Federal Engineers

BILLIAN-LEGION PARK WILL BE FULLY RESTORED

The new construction contract includes all of the work required to restore Billian-Legion Park to its full projected completion.
Some of the features of the park must be rearranged, but all of the recreation facilities planned for the park will be completed as a part of this contract.
The estimated completion date for this second construction contract is mid-2005.
The first construction contract, the new bridge, will have been completed before the scheduled date for finishing
this new contract.

THEN WHAT?

The Federal Engineers are now at work designing protection for the western part of Bound Brook Borough. That third piece will extend along the Middle Brook, from approximately Route 22, down to Talmage Avenue and the New Jersey Transit railroad tracks.
The plan is to get construction underway at the western end, along the Middle Brook, before the new construction contract at the eastern end reaches completion.

HOW BAD WAS FLOYD?

The various Federal Agencies responsible for keeping track of rainfall and floods have finished their research about Floyd.
Their conclusion? Floyd was the greatest flood in the Bound Brook area since Europeans first cam to New Jersey.
