To Editor:

Once again all in Bound Brook had a fun time at our annual Halloween Costume Contest and Parade.  The kids and their parents who attended really enjoyed the scary music, prizes and refreshment.  But this event could not have been pulled off if not for the help of the dedicated volunteers and sponsors of Bound Brook.  A thanks goes to Following:  Ben Auletta, Jr. who helped the Mayor and myself organize a wonderful event for the residents of our town.  All in attendance enjoyed his blend of the perfect scary music and announcements.  Ben has been involved with this event for the last ten years.  Joan Roberto took on the task of organizing the volunteers as well as judging the costume contest.  The judges also included Roseanne Short and Carole Hulib.   OEM Director Hal Dietrich kept the crowds in line during the contest.  Helen Massagli, Fred Hulib, and Saroya Vasquez helped serve refreshments.  Also thank you to Paul Lasko who assisted DJ Ben with the DJ duties.  Leading the parade and keeping the street clear were Bound Brook Police Officers Kevin Rivenbark and Michael Jannone.  Thanks also go out to the rescue squad for standing by in case of emergency at the commuter lot.  Our department of public works was on the job for clearing the lot and making sure tables and other supplies were available.

The following made donations: Councilman Jeff Thompson donated cash covering the cost of the contest prizes.  Minx McCloud handed out $100 worth of dollar coins to the children in costumes courtesy of the Bound Brook Area of Chamber.  Ike Hishmeh, owner of Bound Brook Carpet on Main Street, handed out 100 dollar bills to the children in memory of his brother Hannah who recently passed form cancer.  Shop Right of Bound Brook donated cider for all to enjoy.  The newly opened Dunkin Donuts on Main Street generously donated 600 Munchkins.  While the Bound Brook Recreation Commission paid for the Bound Brook High School Foods Classes to bake 300 Halloween cupcakes for all in attendance.

This was truly a fun event and one you should not miss next Halloween.  Once again a big thank you to all who helped in one-way or another.  The success of events such as this hinges on the volunteerism and generosity of the people and businesses of Bound Brook.

Thank you,

Bound Brook Councilman Javier Vasquez
