Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC) is looking for adult volunteers to change lives through literacy. Come to Bound Brook Library Monday evening Sept 24th at 7 pm to find out about literacy programs for adults in Somerset County.  LVSC trains volunteers as tutors to work in a one-to-one or small group partnership with adults seeking to improve their English reading, writing, speaking and comprehension skills. Volunteers are trained in both Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages and work with adult learners at the lowest levels of literacy. The next tutor training workshop will begin Wednesday Sept 26th at the PeopleCare Center in Bridgewater. Tutors are matched with learners who can meet at mutually convenient times. All tutoring takes place in public places, usually our wonderful local libraries.

Imagine not being able to read a story to your child or write a note to the teacher. Consider the frustration of not being able to understand or be understood by a coworker. If you couldn’t decipher dosages and directions on medication containers, would you know what to do? Think of the inconvenience and danger of not comprehending the directions on cleaning or gardening products. Literacy is so much more than reading.

Call LVSC for how you can help change the world – one life at a time- (908) 725-5430 or www.lvscnj.org

Call (732) 356-0043 if you have questions about programs.  The library is located at 402 E. High Street, Bound Brook, NJ.
